'Hagerty Fantasy Bid' on SPEED returns to the 2013 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction for its ninth year.
In January 2005, SPEED’s Digital and Interactive Media vice president Kevin Annison and his team launched the interactive audience “FantasyBid” as part of the network’s live coverage of the popular Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction from Scottsdale, Ariz.
Expecting“three or four thousand participants”a day, the system briefly derailed when first-day bidding via Internet and SMS text messaging approached10,000 viewing participants.
The initial “social media” experiment, an unqualified success, finished with more than 20,000 participants casting nearly 70,000 bids for prizes ranging from SPEED apparel to car-care kits. Annison and his team never looked back, and in 2012, Fantasy Bid registered 1.6 million bids from nearly 180,000 unique players, with the grand prize of a custom Ford Mustang.
“Viewer response continues to amaze me every year as the franchise continues to grow each time we roll it out…the game has taken on a life of its own,”Annison said. “The Hagerty Fantasy Bid game is one our best multi-platform integrations marrying up our production, marketing and digital resources, bringing an entertaining and engaging game to our TV audience. We continue to add new elements and prizes to keep fans involved and playing along. The numbers speak for themselves. The viewer’s love it, Hagerty loves it and so does the SPEED team.”
This year, SPEED’s live six-day coverage from Scottsdale begins Jan. 15, and Barrett-Jackson Hagerty Fantasy Bid participants once again will compete for prizesby attempting to guess the correct price of 28 Hagerty Fantasy Bid cars being auctioned live during the SPEED telecast. In addition, this year, SPEED adds a Fantasy Bid League, where participants can invite and challenge friends.
Prizes range froma 60-inch Samsung 3D LED HD Smart television to 32-gigabyte Apple iPad Minis. Ford returns again this year in a big way-- anytime a contestant makes a bid during the Hagerty Fantasy Bid, he or she automatically is entered into a drawing for a‘one-of-a-kind’ Ford Racing Champions 800- horsepower 2013 Shelby GT500 HFB Special Edition Mustang.
Adding to the interactive experience, SPEED is partnering this year with iPowow!, the participation specialists, for real-time audience voting displayed on-screen as events are happening in and around the auction.
In addition to Fantasy Bid,SPEED brings back the Barrett-Jackson Social Garage,a digital destination where viewers can watch video, follow Twitter conversations (#BJAZ13) and comment on the“Barrett- Jacksonon SPEED” Facebook page. SPEED digital also will offer live streaming with three different camera auction angles sponsored by SPX, optimized for iPhones, iPad & Android devices.
