"Neverland" and "Treasure Island" Miniseries To Be Distributed In Canada By Multiple Media Entertainment

April 19 2011

Toronto, ON - April 19, 2011- Multiple Media Entertainment, a full-service media content distribution company, announced today that they will be the exclusive Canadian distributor of two of the biggest budgeted event miniseries for the 2011/2012 broadcast season.

“We are very pleased to be able to offer “Neverland” and “Treasure Island” to the Canadian broadcasters”, said Jennifer Graham, the Senior Vice President of Sales and Acquisitions at Multiple Media Entertainment. “The combined budgets of these two star-studded miniseries is in excess of $50 million and they will inevitably be two of the most exciting event programs to air during the 2011/2012 broadcast season”.

“These captivating original movie events present compelling, contemporary takes on two of the greatest stories in all of literature,” said Robert Halmi Sr, of RHI Entertainment.  “While Treasure Island has a stunningly realistic style, Neverland utilizes more visual effects than ever attempted for a television production. We are extremely proud of both of these projects and we are thrilled that Canadian audiences will soon be able to experience them.”

Neverland comes from Gemini and Emmy Award winning executive producer Robert Halmi, Sr. and is being directed by Banff Rocky Award winning director Nick Willing. It is an original story of one of the most beloved characters of all time – Peter Pan. Neverland, which was shot in Italy and Ireland, will be available for broadcast in December 2011. The star studded cast includes Oscar nominee Keira Knightley, Golden Globe winner Bob Hoskins, Golden Globe nominee Anna Friel, Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill) and Charlie Rowe (Never Let Me Go).

Neverland introduces us to a young lad named Peter and his streetwise gang, who are mysteriously transported from turn-of-the-century London into an enchanting parallel world where time stands still and an adventure awaits, like nothing you’ve ever seen before. In Neverland, no one ever ages and lost souls have been plucked out of time. The lost boys are soon caught in a war with the man who will become Captain Hook and change the fate of this mystical land forever.

Neverland is produced by Dublin-based Parallel Films on behalf of MNG Films in association with Syfy and Sky Movies HD, and distributed by RHI Entertainment.

Treasure Island, which was shot in Ireland and Puerto Rico, will be available for broadcast in early 2012. The star studded cast includes Emmy winner Eddie Izzard, Emmy nominee Elijah Wood and Emmy and Golden Globe winner Donald Sutherland. Additional cast includes Toby Regbo (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), Rupert Penry-Jones (Match Point) and Daniel Mays (Atonement).

In Treasure Island a young Jim Hawkins is the only person who can successfully get a schooner to a legendary island known for buried treasure. But aboard the ship is a mysterious cook named John Silver, whose true motivation on the journey challenges Jim’s trust in the entire crew. This is an exciting and atmospheric new take on the definitive pirate action adventure of reckless buccaneers, buried fortunes and a friendship forged in peril on the high seas.

Executive Producers are Robert Halmi Sr. for RHI Entertainment, Alan Moloney for Parallel Films, Mark Grenside for MNG Films, Melanie Stokes and Anne Brogan for Kindle Entertainment and Annie Harrison-Baxter for Sky.

The producer is Laurie Borg (“Made in Dagenham,” “Sense and Sensibility,” “Little Voice”). Written by Stewart Harcourt (“Hearts & Bones,” “Poirot,” “Marple”). “Treasure Island” is directed by Steve Barron (“Merlin,” “Arabian Nights”).

Neverland and Treasure Island are each 4-hour miniseries and will air on Sky 1 and Sky Movies in the UK and SyFy in the United States.
